We have been taking him out to go potty when he wakes up, then putting him back in his crate, but when we do that, he immediately whines, and eventually barks. However, about 6 weeks ago, he started waking up between 5 and 5:15 every morning. When we brought him home, he woke up early the first week or so, but then we were super fortunate, and he started sleeping until between 6 and 6:20 every morning. He is a delight in so many ways, but the current sleep situation is creating some stress in our house. It would wake up the kids, but if it's necessary and a short process, we could push through. What are your recommendations? Is this a puppy phase he will outgrow, or do I just need to start leaving him in his kennel after he potties to try to break the cycle. I totally understand in my mind that he is a puppy and is in no way intentionally disrupting our sleep, but it feels like a long enough trend that I'm not sure it will resolve on its own. Six weeks of super early mornings is starting to take its toll, and I'm feeling exhausted and frustrated (especially since I am the primary puppy caretaker during the day. In order to avoid waking up our kids, I have been laying on the floor by the crate with a blanket with him and he usually goes back to sleep until at least 6:30 (I, of course, am wide awake at that point.) Today, he was up super early, then wouldn't even lay down with me in our room, but instead, whined to come downstairs, then proceeded to go to sleep on the floor of the living room.
